Mattson - A brief history
Raised in Middlebury, CT, Greg Mattson first picked up a guitar in elementary school and was immediately hooked - a natural progression after growing up with a steady diet of old-school rock and roll from his dad’s record collection. After befriending fellow guitarist and songwriter Matt Rose in middle school, the two recruited several friends to fill out the band lineup and began performing in local venues. Eventually, they met New Haven-based drummer Sam Oliver in 2017, whose unmatched drumming prowess quickly elevated and diversified the band’s sound. Subsequently, C.J. Armstrong joined with his soulful take on the keys, and bassist Joey Whelan brought his command of the bass and extensive knowledge of music theory to complete the current Mattson lineup. The band has quickly earned a name for themselves in Connecticut’s music scene, and has branched out into venues throughout New England and beyond, showing an impressive stylistic range that transcends genre lines. Mattson has released several singles including the 2018 country rock jam “Life Ain’t Fair” and is currently working on a full-length album which is expected to be released in mid-2022. Their releases can be found on Spotify and other streaming platforms, and their latest updates can be found on the @officialmattson Instagram and Facebook page.
